There is always lots of stuff goin' on! No shortage of entertainment here on the Central Coast! It seems as if there is a festival of some shape or size every month, we constantly have big names passing through our beautiful area AND we have intriguing annual contests of musical endeavor. So, check back here for information on local events-of-note, as well as blockbuster touring shows.

Local Happenings

Cal Poly always has a great diversity of entertainment. Not to mention local & touring bands in the University Union on Thursdays at 11 a.m. Details on how you or your band can be considered for this gig are outlined on the ASI Events page.

Get you or your band a gig at San Luis Obispo's Farmer's Market on Thursday nights. You will need Microsoft Wordİ to open the application. Check out the details here! Also, here is a listing of the other Farmer's Markets. Call any of these numbers for more info.

Check out the Musician's Community Center, "Stairway to Heaven" above Lightning Joe's Guitar Heaven at 100 E. Branch Street, Arroyo Grande. There is a cafe, gift shop, musician database, museum & guitar history exhibit. For more information call the shop at 481-2226.

The Basin Street Regulars hold jazz sessions Noon-5 p.m. on the last Sunday of every month at the Veteran's Memorial Building, 780 Bello Street, Pismo Beach. Jam musicians welcome! For more info call Sandy at 481-8051.

National Acts

Avila Beach Golf Resort: a.k.a. "The Beach Bowl" always has quality entertainment. For a listing of this year's exceptional lineup, go to their website.

The Clark Center usually has quality local & national entertainment. An excellent venue. Check out the upcoming shows!

The biggest names tend to play at the Christopher Cohan Center for Performing Arts at Cal Poly. No bad seats in the house and a rockin' sound system. Check out the wonderfully eclectic entertainment lined up for this year!

Contests

The Winery Music Awards is a band competition. There are cash prizes and recording time for the top 3 bands. A record deal is the Grand Prize! Cass Winery casswinery.com at 7350 Linne Road in Paso Robles is hosting this event.

Check out Ernie Ball's Battle of the Bands. Every year bands are voted for and the winner goes on the Vans Warped Tour.

ISC - International Songwriting Competition is an annual songwriting contest. There are cash & prizes for 50 winners in 16 categories. Good Luck!

The John Lennon Songwriting Contest is an international songwriting contest that began in 1997. It is open to amateur and professional songwriters who submit entries in any one of 13 categories. Give it a shot!
